Low Calorie Pomegranate Kombucha Margarita
Love summer cocktails but not all the added sugar and calories that come with them? Me too. That’s why I came up with this Pomegranate Kombucha Margarita.
I’ve always been a drinker, but I’ve never been a huge fan of any cocktail aside from the margarita. Cocktails are too sweet and they are loaded with all those empty calories I’d rather waste on schnacks. My boyfriend, on the other hand, loves his pink drinks. If it’s fruity and pink he’s ordering it. Our anniversary is tomorrow and I predict quite a few homemade cocktails. So, when I noticed my local grocery carried a pomegranate Kombucha, my mind went to pink drinks.
So was born the Pomegranate Kombucha Margarita
When Kombucha became the next big thing, I never got into. When my mom started making her own homemade Kombucha I still didn’t get into it. Though, thanks to my local grocery store I finally tried. It turns out I like Kombucha and it makes a great cocktail mixer, not to mention it’s numerous health benefits.
Kombucha is a fermented mixture of black tea, sugar, and bacteria and yeast in the form of SCOBY. The process of fermentation breaks down 90% of the sugar resulting in a naturally low sugar, low calorie, and low caffeine drink. After fermentation, Kombucha becomes carbonated and is full of enzymes, b-vitamins, and probiotics.
These probiotics, have been tied to the health benefits such as strengthened immune system, increased energy, weight loss, liver detoxification (which is probably good since we just mixed it with tequila) and improved digestion. Combine the health benefits, the low sugar content and natural carbonation and Kombucha makes a great cocktail mixer.
This Pomegranate Kombucha Margarita when made with 1.5oz of Silver Tequila and 6oz of Health-Ade’s Pomegranate Kombucha, comes to only 126 calories. Compared to the standard Margarita, made with tequila, triple sec, sour mix and lime juice and totaling approximately 455 calories. This cocktail leaves room for a second, third or even a fourth drink.
Kombucha for the win!
- Juice of half a lime
- 1.5 ounces of your favorite Tequila
- 6 oz Pomegranate Kombucha
- lime wedge for garnish
- Fill glass with ice
- Pour in Tequila and Kombucha
- Squeeze in lime juice
- Garnish & Enjoy
- This can easily be made with Rum or Vodka if Tequila is not you alcohol of choice.
